The Massachusetts Marine Trades Association (MMTA) has proudly recognized Representative Kathy LaNatra as the 2025 MMTA Legislator of the Year. During a recent Business of Boating (BOB) conference, Christopher Jean, Rep LaNatra’s Chief of Staff, who accepted the award on Rep LaNatra’s behalf, was applauded by a local and national audience for Rep. LaNatra’s active role in supporting the recreational boating industry in Massachusetts. A specific acknowledgement was made for the work her office put forward to help pass the Hanson-Milone safe boating law in early 2025, after it had been in the works for more than 12 years. MMTA President Marie Hayward presented the award during the lunchtime award at the conference.

MA, State Representative Kathy LaNara said, “I’m truly honored to be named MMTA Legislator of the Year. The MMTA has been a strong, consistent advocate for boaters, the marine trades, and boater safety across the Commonwealth, and I was proud to work alongside them to pass the Hanson-Milone Boater Safety law at the end of last session. This recognition really reflects what’s possible when we build coalitions, form real partnerships, and stay focused on a shared goal — keeping people safe while they’re out enjoying our waterways. I’m grateful to Randall, Marie, and the entire MMTA team for this meaningful honor.”

Randall Lyons, Executive Director of the MMTA, said, “Representative LaNatra has been a passionate supporter of the Massachusetts recreational boating industry for nearly ten years. Rep. LaNatra, Christopher Jean, and their team worked tirelessly to help enact the Hanson Milone Safe Boater law in early 2025, which will officially take effect on 4/1/26. This bill will save lives on Massachusetts waterways and help educate more boaters about safe boating laws and regulations, by requiring a safe boater certificate for all Massachusetts Boaters.”
